As a report from the Center for Responsive Politics’ Open Secrets website noted recently,
pharmaceutical manufacturers and health insurance companies have a lot of points of disagreement
these days—about who’s mainly to blame for high drug prices, for instance. But they agree on
something: Medicare for All cannot become law.
Extinction is roaming the world. In truly shocking new science, from Australia biologist Corey Bradshaw finds
we are closer to the brink than anyone thought. Plus a great new action song from Sweden, and an intimate
chat with one of the foremost climate scientists in the world, Dr. Phil Jones from the University of East Anglia.
Part 2   focuses on prosperity. Drawing on the past 150 years of US history, Parenti shows that capitalism does not
increase general prosperity. In fact it has brought regular recessions and depressions to ordinary citizens. Not "free
enterprise" but massive government spending finally lifted America out of the depression of the 1920s and 1930s.

US Had the Motive and the Means to Attack Venezuelan Power Grid

We shouldn't dismiss Maduro's allegation that the U.S. sabotaged Venezuela's power grid. There
is a double-standard in the West about 'conspiracy theories.' We are asked, without evidence to
believe that Syria's President Assad gasses his own people, that Russia placed Donald Trump in
the White House and is behind every nefarious thing in the world, and so on. Yet we are
simultaneously told not to listen to foreign governments who are under assault from Washington.
We have two competing narratives on power failure in Venezuela. We know as a fact that the power
went out in Venezuela. We also know that the U.S. has openly admitted to conducting cyber-warfare
on countries such as Iran and Cuba. One U.S. analyst suggested that the timing and nature of
Venezuela's electrical failure is straight out of the cyberwarfare playbook. It is therefore not
inconceivable that Maduro is right.
We are living in a time in which the Monroe Doctrine is openly being touted in the highest offices
and voices in America. This is a naked and illegal regime-change in Venezuela. And "rules-based"
Canada is dutifully following Trump. The Organization of American States doesn't allow this kind of
interference, so Canada is pretending it doesn't exist, and refers constantly to the "Lima Group"
faction instead.

Extinction Rebellion ONE of TWO – Dr. Rupert Read   TWO of TWO
In October 2018 about one hundred academics signed a call to action. They established Extinction Rebellion in the United
Kingdom. The movement has become international with Naomi Klein, Vandana Shiva and Noam Chomsky signing their support
to the second letter. The goal of Extinction Rebellion is to use non-violent resistance to bring about radical change to prevent
climate collapse, loss of biodiversity and to reduce the risk of human extinction. Dr. Rupert Read is teaching Philosophy at the
University of East Anglia. He is a long time Green Party politician and a former Green Party spokesperson for transport.
He spoke on February 6, 2019 at the University of East Anglia.
Against the Grain is a radio and web media project whose aim is to provide in-depth
